Keith Olbermann’s Special Report on “Small Businesses” Part 1

Keith Olbermann’s Special Report on “Small Businesses” 2010-09-22 Keith Olbermann talks about the GOP and their love for “small businesses” but then tells us what businesses actually fall into that category. “Small” doesn’t mean the size, or number of employees, it means the number of owners. Three percent of small businesses take in HALF of the profit for the whole group. There are companies making millions that are considered “small”. This is part 1 of 2.

    Dump the current tax code and implement a flat tax so everyone pays the same percent. Everyone.

    @upinya25 Where are you hearing in this report any blame about making money? The point Keith is making is that what everyone traditionally thinks the definition of a small business is, and what the republicans would like us to believe, is not only some small entrepreneur or family run business, but also includes some extremely large companies that use federal tax filing statutes that classify them as a small business and would benefit from extending the tax cut above the $250,000 level.

    Why are ratings disabled for this video? Anyway, I’d give it a thumbs up. One of Keith’s bests segments, yet. Should be watched by EVERYONE.

    @BootBazaar, Thanks for your perfect response to @upinya25 (he’s also made some pretty clueless comments over on my channel). And we wonder why facts, real evidence, science and rational thinking seem to fall on deaf ears in this country. It’s not that they can’t hear. It’s that they just flat out can’t comprehend.

  5. BootBazaar says:

    @upinya25,
    No, what he’s saying is that republicans are counting huge corporations (like Bechtel) as small “small businesses” because as S corporations they have a “small” number of owners. And when republicans give the rhetoric about “small business” and so-called tax breaks for “small businesses” they are talking about huge corporations like Bechtel and not REAL small businesses. I think you need to watch this a few more times and let it sink in.

  6. upinya25 says:

    so wait ur saying keith, if u have money u have no business to try and start other small businesses? So, say if i was a millionaire, it would be wrong if I opened a barber shop too and claimed that as small busines bc I already have money? And b/c you make more profit doesnt mean your not small business, whats the point of having a business if you arent trying to make money.

  11. YedYak says:

    Way to go Keith…thank you for all your hard work and your reporting !!!

  12. kipptumor says:

    @PhilipPorter Greed that has been enabled by lobbyists (such as the bloated Koch Brothers) who grease Republican law makers up so that they can continue to call themselves “small” businesses. The lies are so damn big these days – sky-high rhetoric.

  13. PhilipPorter says:

    Wow, if those are small businesses the the US is clearly doing better than everyone thinks!

    So what is everyone whining about? ;-)
